Ask The Experts: Local Citation Updates

on March 14, 2016

Our team of digital marketing experts has implemented a weekly series, Ask the Experts, dedicated to answering client questions regarding L2TMedia’s available products and best practices. The success of our dealerships is our number one priority, but we know that many of our clients have questions when it comes to what we do. As these questions arise, let us know what we can help you understand.

Why don’t my updates on local citation sites show up right away?

Local citations, such as Google My Business, Yahoo and Yelp, are online references to your business’s name, address and phone number. These citations are a key component of the ranking algorithms, as they help search engines confirm that businesses are what they say they are. Since these listings are proven to be a huge part of SEO campaigns, it’s crucial your citations are consistent across the board and are updated if any business information changes.

One issue we face when it comes to local citations is it could take anywhere up to three months to get ownership of the listing or for updates to appear. Our SEO Specialists can implement changes on the backend of the citations, but cannot do anything to get this information to appear on the live sites. The platforms decide when the updated information is going to show up on the listing and search engines decide when to crawl the local citation sites. This makes it difficult to know exactly when we can expect any changes to appear, but our SEO Specialists work hard to ensure that the correct business information gets listed.
