Ask The Experts: Too Many Web Pages

on June 20, 2016

Our team of digital marketing experts has implemented a weekly series, Ask the Experts, dedicated to answering dealers’ questions regarding L2TMedia’s solutions and best practices. The success of our dealerships is our number one priority and we know that many of our clients have questions when it comes to what we do. So ask away!

Is it possible to have too many pages on a website for SEO purposes?

In a way, yes, it is possible to have too many pages on your website. There is not, however, a specific number at which your site instantly has “too many pages,” as the quality of your pages matter more than the quantity.

Every page on your website is crawled by Googlebots and indexed by the search engine, giving them a chance to appear in SERPs for relevant queries. Many people think that having more pages gives you a chance to rank more frequently, thus giving you increased visibility. Both Google and Moz have reported that you will not see anything about the number of pages on a site affecting its overall ranking. In fact, it makes your site harder to crawl and lowers chances of your entire site being indexed. This essentially negates the strategy of building new pages, just to increase organic rank. Additionally, adding too many, low-quality pages can be seen as a spammy or manipulative strategy, thus forcing penalties from search engines.

Instead of over-stuffing our dealership sites with countless pages, our SEO Specialists and Content Editors focus on building quality pages that provide relevant and informational content to both users and search engines.
