Ask The Experts: Onsite and Offsite Blogs

on April 4, 2016

Our team of digital marketing experts has implemented a weekly series, Ask the Experts, dedicated to answering dealers’ questions regarding L2TMedia’s solutions and best practices. The success of our dealerships is our number one priority and we know that many of our clients have questions when it comes to what we do. So ask away!

What are the differences between an onsite and an offsite blog?

An onsite blog is hosted in the same place as a dealer’s website. These can be set up in two ways; as a subdirectory or a subdomain. An offsite blog is hosted through a separate platform, such as WordPress. Both blog options have clear benefits for a business.

An onsite blog allows your dealership to share content directly on a platform within your site, utilizing internal and external links. This helps increase the visibility of your dealership’s website in search engine results. Internal links allow visitors to remain on your site longer and engage with additional pages, while external links increase your site’s portfolio of backlinks, pointing back to your main domain.

An offsite blog has its own domain, but still allows you to share content related to your dealership. These blogs are still valuable, as they utilize links that point back to your website. These internal links guide visitors back towards your dealership site and push them to learn more about your business.

Deciding between an onsite and offsite blog is a common question business owners face. Both options are beneficial for SEO purposes, and allow our specialists and Content Editors a platform to improve your site’s SEO performance.
